I believe in both the changes that therapy can make, as well as the potential and ability that we all have within ourselves for growth and change.
Being able to talk openly to someone else in a confidential and accepting setting can be helpful in itself.
It can also help in gaining understanding and acceptance, working through difficulties you are facing and helping you to make the changes you wish.
Booking an initial session of Counselling can often help in your decision whether Counselling is right for you. There is no pressure or obligation to continue after this initial session. I work from comfortable rooms in Lewes and Portslade, and I am also happy to hold sessions on Zoom. To arrange your first counselling session or to find more, please get in touch with me by email paul@pdrcounselling.co.uk and I will get back to you.
Choosing counselling shows real strength and a desire for change in your life. I provide a private and confidential counselling service to individuals.
I currently work in private practice and work with a diverse range of people from a wide range of backgrounds. I feel privileged to have been able to share their world and to have always received positive feedback from my clients.
My focus is to provide a supportive environment where you can talk, express and reflect on any difficulties and feelings that you may find hard to share with others.
I provide counselling for all types of relationships, professional and personal, to explore and address any challenges.
Together, we can develop healthy coping strategies to manage the effects of trauma, loss, or abandonment.
I believe that it is never too late to recover from trauma, loss or abandonment. I also believe that if the counsellor has first-hand experience of these issues, it can enable both parties to access the emotions around them and find a pathway through them.
In brief: I was shipped to a strange country at the age of seven, endured the torment of boarding school and had a rollercoaster career in the music business before spiralling into the hell of drug addiction (I have been in recovery for 25 years.) Growth is an over-used word. But after many years of work on myself, and a decade helping the marginalised, the homeless and the addicted, I feel able to address the extremes of trauma.
I draw from a range of approaches to find the best way to help. One person might want somewhere safe to express their feelings and emotions, another might prefer to focus on ways to change behaviour, another might get the most from discussing theories and ideas. Or the same person might want or need different things at different times. There is no right or wrong way. It’s simply what works best for you.
Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of counselling. It means that what you talk about in your counselling sessions stays between the two of us. There are a few exceptions to this rule:
I have put together a list of my most frequently asked questions to put your mind at ease, if you would like any more information about my range of counselling services in East Sussex, please get in touch.
When you first get it touch, I offer an initial consultation, where you can find out if you think that I may be the right therapist for you.
Appointments are available in person, via video call or telephone call
One session a week is a good guide if you’re just starting counselling. We can discuss reducing the number of sessions to twice monthly, then monthly as you work your way through your issues.
There are no set rules and no limit to the number of sessions you can have. We will include a reflection chat approximately every 4 weeks to see if you feel that you are making progress and whether you feel ready to end.
Unfortunately, no. The counselling I offer is built around the trusting and confidential relationship built between ourselves.
Fees are payable by bank transfer before each session.
